SUP the Map Leaburg Dam, McKenzie River, OR

🌊 SUP The Map: Leaburg Dam

Glass water. River vibes. Pure PNW magic.

If you’re looking for a peaceful, scenic river paddle with minimal current and maximum beauty — Leaburg Dam needs to be on your paddle list.

Located just east of Eugene along the McKenzie River, this stretch of water offers calm conditions, wildlife sightings, and that emerald-green clarity the McKenzie is famous for.

Life’s too short to stay on shore… so let’s SUP The Map. 💙

📍 Location

Leaburg Dam Leaburg, Oregon (about 30 minutes from Eugene)

The dam creates a slower-moving section of the McKenzie River, making it a fantastic option for paddlers who want river beauty without strong current.

Parking is easy, and there are multiple access points depending on water levels.

Emerald green water — classic McKenzie clarity🦅 Wildlife sightings — herons, osprey, eagles🌊 Light current — gentle movement but no rapids in the dammed section🌲 Forest-lined shoreline — peaceful and scenic☀️ Beautiful in all seasons — especially stunning in summer and early fall

The water is typically calm enough for beginner-to-intermediate paddlers, but always check conditions before launching.

🛶 Paddle Experience

This isn’t a whitewater paddle — but it is a river paddle.

You’ll notice:

  • Mild current depending on water release

  • Subtle movement that gives you a light workout

  • Glassy sections early in the morning

  • Reflections of towering trees along the shoreline

Stay aware of:

  • Changing water levels

  • Submerged branches

  • Dam structures (keep a safe distance)

When conditions are right, it feels like floating through a green canyon.

🧭 Best Time to Paddle

  • Summer: Warm temps, beautiful water color

  • Early Fall: Crisp air, fewer people

  • Spring: Check river flow before launching

Always:✔️ Check weather✔️ Check wind✔️ Tell someone your paddle plan✔️ Dress for immersion

River conditions can change — know before you go.

🚗 Parking & Access

There are public access areas near the dam. Depending on water levels, you can launch from shoreline areas with gradual entry.

Arrive early on warm weekends to secure easy parking.
